Mullin to testify in Davis v. Airport case – November 29, 2011

As I am sure you know by now, Turkia Mullin’s deposition is scheduled to be taken this upcoming Monday at 9:00 a.m. My office will host all depositions on that day. Since there is so much media interest in this legal procedure, I thought it would be a good idea to discuss with you in advance what will-and will not-occur on Monday.

A deposition is simply an out of court proceeding (usually at a lawyer’s office) to obtain a witness’s testimony in preparation for a more formal courtroom proceeding. There are no judges, juries, bailiffs, or spectators present, only the witnesses, a person for each side, their attorneys, and a court reporter. This is not a public proceeding, so there is no reason to come early to get a seat.

Turkia’s deposition will be the first of several depositions on Monday. Each deposition will take approximately 1-2 hours. After Turkia’s deposition, Jack Krasula and Renee Axt will also be deposed. Depending on the scheduling, there may also be depositions of other Wayne County Airport Authority board members after that.

These depositions only involve Robert Davis’s claims that the Airport’s CEO selection process violated the Open Meetings Act and that he was denied the opportunity to ask questions at the October 31, 2011 Airport board meeting.

Judge Colombo has already ordered that the only issue Ms. Mullin may be asked about is the Airport CEO selection process, nothing else. If the questioning strays from this legitimate area, I will object and Ms. Mullin will respect the Court’s ruling by not answering those questions.

So please do not expect any great revelations about the Wayne County compensation issues, the jail project, EDGE, the racetrack, her termination, or anything else not directly related to the hiring process. Ms. Mullin will explain these complex and deeply misunderstood issues at the appropriate time.

One final word – a request from me. If you plan on coming to the building for a photo opportunity, out of respect for the other tenants in this building, please be as inconspicuous as possible.

Thank you for your courtesies.
