Help for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender federal workers

Over the last decade, it has become increasingly clear that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) workers will continue to assert their rights in the nation’s workforce. These people demand the same rights that other workers enjoy. Further, they deserve the same respect and consideration as well.

However, many employers in Detroit still discriminate against LGBT employees. This is so for those working in federal employment positions as well those with other types of jobs. In fact, a study conducted by the University of Michigan has revealed that many LGBT federal employees feel largely unsupported by their employers.

While feeling a lack of support may not be workplace discrimination, it is indicative of the nation’s continuing rejection of these individuals. When the federal government does not take the rights of its LGBT workers into consideration, how can we expect other employers to do so?

We thought it was time to make certain that LGBT workers truly understand their rights. Just like other workers in the country, LGBT employees have the right to do their work without any discrimination whatsoever. This includes workplace discrimination based on their status as gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual individuals.

A good course of action for federal workers who feel they are suffering from workplace discrimination is to speak with an attorney. The benefits of taking such action are many. Perhaps the most important benefit is having a legal professional guide you through the process of pursuing a remedy against discrimination.

Unfortunately, we are not yet prepared as a nation to put a complete stop to workplace discrimination. However, if we unite and call out these behaviors in a legal setting, more employers may begin to recognize how wrong these actions are in the workplace.
