When blowing the whistle under protection is your goal

It is a great and noble thing to expose wrongdoing on the corporate level. Let’s be real, though: It is also a dangerous endeavor in some situations. If you are like most Detroit residents, you need and value your job. You do not want to lose your livelihood even though becoming a whistleblower is absolutely the right thing to do. Why should you risk taking security away from your loved ones just to expose wrongdoing?

Other than to remind you that it is indeed right to take such action, there is little we can do to answer your questions of why. What we can do as employment law attorneys is tell you that the law can protect you if you do decide to step forward. It is against the law for employers or even co-workers to retaliate against you as a whistleblower.

Now you are probably thinking that the law did not stop corporate wrongdoing in the first place so how can you feel secure about its capacity to protect you now. Again, without a personalized consultation, it is difficult to address these questions on a general level. However, you should know that your whistleblower protections run deep with help from the Federal government.

Anytime a whistleblower reports retaliation or discrimination at work, the government can step in on behalf of the employee. The key point here is that it must be reported.
