Signs of age discrimination in the workplace

The nation's workforce continues to get older as the baby boomer generation has yet to hit the retirement ranks in full force. This has led to many workers suffering age discrimination at workplaces all across Michigan and the rest of the country. Here are some common signs of age discrimination in the workplace.

Have you recently been reassigned to duties that are lower than your education level or experience level on the job? If so, it could be a sign that the company is discriminating against you based on your age. They could be trying to make you unhappy so that you wind up leaving on your own.

Have you stopped receiving raises? When the raises stop coming and the company isn't in financial trouble, it could mean that you are being discriminated against because of your age. This is difficult to prove, especially if you only had a decent year at work or if you already reached the highest point of the pay scale.

Are comments being made about your age? This includes being asked when you are going to retire. Any comments about age or retirement can be and should be taken as age discrimination.

Have you noticed other workers your age being offered buyouts as the company continues to hire young workers? This is blatant age discrimination, especially since hiring is occurring.

As you can see, there are quite a few signs of age discrimination in the workplace you should be on the lookout for when on the job. Don't let your employer force you out of work because of your age. Fight for your rights with the help of an experienced workplace discrimination attorney.
